One of the two renowned Sealife cameras, Micro 3.0 was developed to change the standards of underwater photography. Unlike other camera brands for whom waterproof cameras are just another product category, Sealife made underwater cameras their primary focus together with accessories that might come in handy while taking photos underwater. For over twenty-five years, Sealife has been providing divers with first-class equipment for underwater photography. While such beauty is hard to forget, nothing can remind you of all the sights you beheld like the video of your dive. The views that the underwater world bestows upon divers are unlike anything one might see on the surface. If you have a higher-end phone like the Samsung Galaxy S20 or iPhone 12, you'll likely get better results.Scuba diving brings its enjoyers an absolutely unearthly experience, the likes of which are hard to come by.

We took our SportDiver Housing on the same dives as the RM-4K, so feel free to compare what you see in this review. Given that the RM-4K is the same price as the SeaLife SportDiver Housing, we actually slightly prefer our results from the SportDiver housing with a smartphone. We found the colors in our photos and videos to be particularly vibrant, with or without a light. However, if you don't want to bother with video lights, the RM-4K has two built in color correction modes that work quite well (as we mentioned before).

The Pro 2000 package is more than sufficient for adding beautiful colors in both your wide angle and macro photos or video. The Reefmaster RM-4K is not compatible with underwater strobes, so you will need to use an underwater video light to bring back warm colors into your scene. Not quite as good as the GoPro Hero 9, but still very good. The electronic video stabilization does a surprisingly good job at stabilizing underwater video. If your subject (or you) is moving a little faster, then we might recommend filming at 1080p/60fps. When it comes to underwater video, we recommend shooting 4K/30p when you are filming something still for the highest level of detail. As soon as you go underwater, the magnification behind the flat port makes that vignetting go away. It's important to note that when you're taking photos above water, the camera is actually so wide that you can have a little vignetting in the housing. There is a minimum focusing distance of 12 inches, so you'll want to consider using the sealife macro lens for smaller subjects. The lens is very wide, so you can get nice and close to your subjects for better color and detail. We found that using the shallow underwater white balance mode tended to produce the best results. We did notice that the underwater white balance was a little off at times, but changing white balance settings in the camera was easy. The corners in the images are fairly sharp and the dynamic range in the photos resulted in a nice gradient from the highlights to the shadows. At 14 megapixels, the photo quality is surprisingly good for such a small camera. Overall the Sealife ReefMaster RM-4K performed as expected when it came to underwater video capture, and was better than we expected in the underwater photo arena. The dynamic range isn't half bad! See the nice gradation of details and color between the bright and dark parts of the image? The 5000F may be a little overkill, so we generally recommend shooting the RM-4K with the Pro 2000 set. We took the RM-4K diving in the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest, along with the Sea Dragon 5000F video light. If you're looking for an action camera that's designed for underwater environments with a couple color correction modes and easy ergonomics, the RM-4K fits the bill.
